Educational Programs for Children
The Toledo Area Humane Society Education Department offers a variety of single and multi-day programs designed to appeal to different age groups and interests. To accommodate the busy schedules of students, TAHS offers educational opportunities after school and on Saturdays.

Pet Sitting for children ages 11-15. If you want to start your own pet business, you will want to attend this interesting program. Learn First Aid for animals, personal safety, pet safety, business tips and "success on the job" pointers. A certified professional pet sitter will share valuable information about the pet sitting business. Participants will receive a packet of take home materials that they can refer to and earn a certificate of completion at the end of the class.

Pets & Me for children ages 7-10. Do you like furry critters? Did you ever wonder what we do at the Toledo Area Humane Society? Can you guess what's in the Gross Out box? Then come join us for this after school program that meets once a week for 5 weeks. Tour the TAHS facility, go on scavenger hunts, enjoy crafts, make dog treats and cat toys, play games while learning about different dog breeds, and meet some of our furry friends.

AAA (All About Animals) Club for children ages 9-12. If you love animals, come join us for this once a month Saturday morning program. We get together starting in October and go through March. Find out about all kinds of dog breeds, learn basic dog training, discover what your cat or dog is trying to tell you through its body language, and enjoy presentations by animal experts. Guest speakers will vary from program to program.

Home School Program - ages 9 - 12
The Toledo Area Humane Society is excited to offer this new Home School Program. Come and meet with us once a week for 5 weeks. Learn how the wolf of long age became the dogs we have today, make cat toys and interesting facts about pocket pets.

To increase compassion for animals, the Toledo Area Humane Society offers FREE age-specific humane education presentations to interested groups. |
|

These presentations are available year round at no cost to groups of all sizes and ages. A dog accompanies TAHS staff on the visit. Children are allowed to pet the dog after the presentation.

Whether your group is elementary, middle, or high school classes, at-risk juveniles, scout troops, youth groups, senior citizen centers, or special needs, we can tailor our presentation to fit your particular need.
What makes these learning experiences especially effective is that they are interactive and can be integrated into any curriculum. To enhance our lessons, we provide handouts and materials to students. These items are selected for the age-level of the groups we are visiting.

Here are just a few of the topics we provide presentations on:

| Responsible Pet Ownership— Sammy the stuffed dog and her puppies teach about animal needs such as food, water, shelter, and love. Children discuss the needs of animals, the importance of spaying and neutering, and how to choose a pet that is right for you. |
| Safety Around Pets/Animal Body Language— Children learn how to approach an animal correctly, how to read an animal's body language, why you should not approach strays, and what to do if an animal attacks you. A coloring book on staying safe around animals is given out. |
| Cruelty Awareness and Prevention— A slide presentation showing actual cases of neglect and cruelty (no graphic footage) helps children see first hand what irresponsible owners look like and hear the happy endings of the rescued animals. The Humane Hero award is discussed, which awards young people who do something positive for animals. |

All presentations end with students being deputized as Jr. Humane Officers now that they know what it takes to take care of animals responsibly and what cruelty to animals entails.
Most presentations last 30–45 minutes, with a question and answer session at the end.

The Toledo Area Humane Society also offers tours of our shelter at 1920 Indian Wood Circle for groups of 20 or less. This provides an interactive environment where groups get to pet kittens and puppies, along with a talk on responsible pet ownership. A scavenger hunt throughout the building to learn about our animals is also available, as well as ideas on how to make toys and treats for the animals.
